Sand comes first. It rides in on feet, beach chairs and dog paws, and the heavy grains sink to the base of carpet and rugs where a home vacuum cannot pull them up. Every step grinds them against the fibers. On every inside job we lift the dry sand out before any wet cleaning starts.
Salt air is the second thing. Near the ocean and on the bay side at Lazy Point, a salty film settles on cedar shingles, deck rails, windows and cars. In shaded spots it mixes with damp and turns into green mildew. Our outdoor work is planned with that in mind.
The third is the calendar. Many homes here are rentals or second homes, so owners want them fresh before Memorial Day, between tenants, and again after Labor Day before closing them up. Tell us your dates and we will plan around them.

Montauk Highway runs right through the hamlet as Main Street, and the Long Island Rail Road's Montauk Branch stops at Amagansett station. In summer the highway can crawl, so we try to set early morning visits on the busiest weekends.
