Area Rug Cleaning in Amagansett, NY

Wood floors and area rugs are the classic look in an Amagansett house. Jute and sisal by the deck door, a flat-weave in the kitchen, a big wool rug in the living room. They look relaxed and beachy, but each one is a sand trap.

Flip a summer rug over and tap it, and you will see a little pile of sand fall out. That sand stays inside the weave, scrapes the fibers and makes the colors look dull. A real wash is the only way to get it out.

We pick the rug up from your house for free, clean it properly and bring it back. Most rugs are cleaned, dried and ready to return in about a week.

Before washing, every rug is checked for fiber type and tested for dye bleeding. A cotton dhurrie, a wool rug and a natural-fiber jute rug each need a different method, and jute in particular does not like too much water.

Next, the rug is dusted to shake out the dry sand. For rugs from beach houses this step alone removes more than most owners expect.

After washing, rugs go through controlled drying rather than being left to air dry. That protects against shrinking and stops mildew, which is a real risk in the damp air near the ocean.

When we bring the rug back, we lay it down and set the pad under it again so it sits flat and safe on wood floors.

Have several rugs? We can take them all in one pickup. Many owners send rugs out right after Labor Day and have them back, clean, before closing the house for winter.

Outdoor and indoor-outdoor rugs from a porch or pool house are welcome as well. They collect pollen, salt and mildew spots over the summer, and a proper wash and dry before winter storage keeps them usable for another year.
