Area Rug Cleaning in NoHo, Manhattan

Wood floors run through most NoHo lofts, and big rugs are what make an open room feel like separate spaces. A 10 by 14 under the sofa, a long one beneath the dining table, a softer one by the bed. Rugs that size cannot be cleaned properly on the floor at home.

Our team rolls and wraps each rug and takes it to our plant. Grit is beaten out first, then the rug goes into a full bath and is rinsed until clean. It dries in a controlled room so the backing dries all the way through. Fiber checks and dye tests happen before any washing.

Fine street dust drifts in through loft windows and settles deep in the pile, where it cuts fibers every time someone walks across. Beating the rug before washing removes that grit.

Strong window light can lighten the side of a rug closest to the glass. Washing brings back brightness, but faded dye does not return, so we point out any fading at pickup.

Many lofts have modern rugs made of viscose, also called art silk, or of blends. Viscose gets weak when wet and can yellow, so it gets extra testing and a gentler wash.

With two or three rugs in one open room, we collect them all at once and return them together, so the space comes back complete.

Pet accidents and spilled drinks on a large rug are hard to treat at home. The bath includes odor treatment that goes through the full thickness.

Tell us whether your building has a freight elevator, a keyed elevator or only stairs. For walk-ups we send extra hands for the bigger rugs.

On return day we lay each rug back down and set the furniture on top.

A rug pad under each large rug keeps it from creeping across smooth plank floors and cushions it against heavy furniture legs.
