Area Rug Cleaning in Inwood, Manhattan

Many Inwood apartments have their original wood floors, and families cover them with large rugs to keep the rooms warm and quiet for the neighbors downstairs. Those rugs are often eight by ten feet or bigger.

They see a lot of life: kids playing on the floor, family dinners, birthday parties and a dog fresh from the trails in Inwood Hill Park.

Washing a rug that size at home is not realistic. Our team rolls it, hauls it to the plant for a full wash, and returns it fresh. You pay nothing extra for the trips.

We pick a pickup time that suits your family. Two people roll and wrap the rug in plastic, then ride it down in the elevator. In the handful of walk-ups, it goes down the stairwell on their shoulders.

At the plant, we first find out what the rug is made of. Wool, polyester, polypropylene and cotton all react in their own way to water and cleaners.

A dusting machine shakes out the dry grit that has worked deep into the pile. Big family rugs often hold a surprising amount of it.

Then the rug is soaked, gently washed through, rinsed and dried flat in a warm room, so the shape stays square and nothing shrinks.

Park mud is a common problem here. When it dries in the fibers it turns into a fine dust that a vacuum cannot fully lift. The wash removes it, and the colors look brighter.

Play rugs in kids' rooms are often foam-backed or printed polyester. They clean up well, but the backing can break down if it is very old. We check it and tell you if a play rug is worth washing.

Families who come back from a summer trip often want the rugs cleaned before school starts. Late August fills up fast, so book early if you want your rugs back by the first day.

Rugs in rooms with a crawling baby deserve extra care. We rinse them longer at the plant, so no cleaning product is left in the pile where little hands and mouths can reach.

Most rugs return within about seven days. For handmade or antique rugs, see Inwood oriental rug cleaning.
