Speonk is small. It sits along Montauk Highway between Eastport and Westhampton, with Remsenburg just to the south toward the bay. Most homes are ranches, capes and modest two-story houses on wooded lots, and most of the people in them live here twelve months a year.
The hamlet also has its own Long Island Rail Road station on the Montauk Branch, so a lot of households run on a train schedule. Somebody leaves early and comes home late, and the house has to keep going in between.
