Every piece has a cleaning code on its tag. W means water-based cleaning is fine, S means solvent only, WS means either, and X means vacuum only. Vintage furniture often has no tag, so we test the fabric in a hidden spot before choosing a method.
Velvet and chenille have a pile that can crush or mark. We clean them with less moisture and brush the pile in one direction while it dries, so it does not look blotchy.
Mid-century chairs often have old foam inside, which can break down if it gets too wet. We use a low-moisture method on older cushions and tell you if the foam itself is past saving.
Leather and suede are separate jobs. Leather gets cleaned and conditioned with leather products only; it is never extracted with water.
