Fine rug care in Rockville Centre. Persian, Turkish and other hand-knotted rugs are collected, tested, washed by hand and brought home at no pickup charge.
The living room of an older Rockville Centre home is often built around one special rug: a Persian, a Turkish or another hand-knotted piece handed down or bought on a trip long ago. Well made, they can outlive all of us, provided they are cleaned the gentle way.
We clean oriental rugs at our facility, by hand. We pick up the rug at your door, take it in, inspect it, test every color, wash it and let it dry at a careful pace. Then we bring it back.
Running a carpet machine over a hand-knotted rug on your floor is a mistake. Too much water, heat or the wrong product can make colors bleed and damage the foundation.
Each rug is inspected first. We check the back to see the knots and weave, look at the fringe and the sides, and note worn areas, old repairs and any moth damage. We tell you what we see before cleaning starts.
The next step is removing deep grit. Grit settles deep between the knots and grinds at the wool each time the rug is walked on.
We test each dye with a damp cloth. Stable colors are washed normally; colors that move get a cooler, gentler process.
Washing is by hand, using a gentle eco-safe cleaner suited to wool and silk, and the rinse continues until no residue is left.
Fringe is cleaned and brushed out during the wash at no extra charge.
We also offer a treatment for moth larvae. Rugs kept under heavy furniture or stored in a basement are the most likely to have moths, since moths prefer dark, undisturbed spots.
We dry the rug gradually in a monitored room, which keeps it square. Most rugs are ready in about a week, but older and larger rugs may need more time.
Machine-woven rugs suit our area rug cleaning in Rockville Centre better, and while the rug is away, it is a good time for sofa cleaning in the same room.
