Oriental Rug Cleaning in Long Beach, NY

A wool Persian rug can last for generations, but a beach town tests it. Fine sand works between the knots and cuts the wool. Damp ocean air keeps the foundation from ever drying out completely. And bright sun through big windows facing the water can fade the colors.

We clean oriental and hand-knotted rugs in our facility, not on your floor. We pick the rug up, check it carefully, and wash it by hand with gentle products, then dry it in a controlled way.

Every rug gets a dye test before washing, so colors that might bleed are protected.

The first step is an inspection. We look at the back of the rug, the knots, the fringe and the edges, and note any worn spots, moth damage or old repairs. We share what we find before cleaning.

Then comes sand and dust removal. For a rug from a beach home this is the most important step, because sand trapped in the base is what wears a hand-knotted rug out. We work the rug until the grit stops coming out.

Washing is done by hand using a mild, eco-safe solution made for wool, followed by a full rinse; the fringe gets cleaned and combed out along with the rest.

Drying is controlled. In humid conditions a wool rug that dries slowly can develop odor or mildew in the foundation, so we make sure it is completely dry before it comes home.

If a rug spent the off-season rolled up in a closed summer house, ask about our moth larvae treatment.

To protect a rug near the water, turn it end to end every year so the sun fades it evenly, and keep it off floors that might get damp. A quality rug pad also helps air circulate under it.

Machine-made rugs are better suited to our regular Long Beach rug wash, and chairs that sit on the rug can be done with upholstery cleaning.
