The staircase. Each step gets hand-tool work along the nosing and the corners, where a big machine cannot reach. Dark crescents at the edge of the treads are mostly packed soil, and they usually lighten a lot with patient agitation before extraction.

Hallways. Long upstairs halls show a grey lane down the middle. We treat that lane separately so the whole hall ends up one even color, not a clean stripe next to a dull border.

The basement. Lower levels dry more slowly, so there we use less water, extract with extra passes and set up air movers. If the basement has ever leaked or smelled damp, mention it. We check the pad first rather than guessing.

Order of work. In a big house we plan the sequence so you are never stuck: usually the farthest bedrooms first, then the hall, then the stairs, then the basement. The kitchen stays usable the whole time.
