Oriental Rug Cleaning in Tribeca, NYC

A hand-knotted rug looks right at home in a Tribeca loft, against brick walls and old wood floors. Many of these rugs are large Persian or Turkish pieces, and some are older family rugs that moved here from a previous home.

Rugs like these should not go through a machine. We pick them up, check how they were knotted, identify the fiber and test each dye, then wash them by hand at our facility.

Loft life is hard on rugs in its own way. Large windows bring strong sun, a long open floor means heavy furniture stays in one place for years, and kids and pets treat a soft rug as the best spot in the house.

The first step is looking at the back of the rug. The knots, the foundation and any old repairs tell us how the rug was made and how much handling it can take.

Wool and silk are cleaned very differently. Silk is fragile when wet and can lose its shine, so we confirm the fiber before choosing a method. Some rugs that look like silk are actually viscose, which needs even more care.

Dyes get tested one color at a time. Reds and dark blues are the colors most likely to bleed, and the test tells us whether the rug can take a full wash or needs a gentler approach.

After washing, rugs are rinsed until the water runs clear and dried slowly and evenly. Fast drying with heat can shrink wool or cause colors to move.

Fringe is cleaned and groomed as part of the service. Pickup and delivery through your building are free.

When the rug comes back, we lay it in place for you. If one side gets much more sun, we may suggest turning it every so often so it fades evenly.
