Area Rug Cleaning in Gramercy, Manhattan

Hardwood floors run through most Gramercy apartments, and area rugs are what make those rooms comfortable. A dining room rug under the table, a soft rug beside the bed, a runner in a long prewar hallway.

We clean area rugs off site. A crew arrives at your door, rolls the rug and takes it to our facility, where it is washed through, rinsed and dried properly. About a week later, it comes back and goes down on its pad, in the same place.

Doorman buildings here make pickup easy if we follow the house rules. We check in at the desk, take the service elevator and keep the rug wrapped as it moves through common areas. If you will be out, many buildings let us collect a rolled rug from the doorman.

In a townhouse, rugs often sit on several floors. We can collect them all in one trip and return them the same way.

Dining room rugs see the most spills: wine, gravy, candle wax and crumbs worked in by chair legs. Bedroom rugs collect dust and hair. Hallway runners show a dark path down the center. Each problem gets a different pre-treatment before the full wash.

We also treat for moths when needed. Rugs under heavy furniture or in a guest room that is rarely used are where moths tend to start, so check those corners.

When the rug comes home, we lay the pad, set the rug and move the furniture legs back on top.

Gramercy's tree-lined blocks bring their own dirt indoors, too: leaves and grit in the fall, salt and slush in the winter.

Long prewar hallways often have a runner from the front door to the bedrooms. Runners are narrow but long, and the center strip wears dark well before the borders. We wash them whole, so the color comes back evenly from end to end.

Rugs on old parquet floors can trap fine grit that scratches the wood underneath. Washing the rug protects the floor as well.
