Armchairs, dining chairs, upholstered headboards and benches cleaned on-site in Prospect Heights apartments and houses.
When a home is small, no seat sits idle. The chair by the window is where you read, dining chairs pull double duty at the work desk, and a fabric headboard soaks up hair products and night cream.
Little by little the fabric dulls, and it gets darker where hands and heads rest. Small rooms also hold on to smells: last night's cooking, a pet, smoke drifting in from the street.
Since we work on-site, nothing has to squeeze through a narrow hallway or a crowded elevator.
Our technician first explains the plan and the cost. If a stain is old or the fabric is fragile, you hear up front what is likely to lift and what may stay.
It all starts with the fabric. We read the tag and try a hidden corner, since velvet, linen and rayon blends can shrink or spot when they get too wet.
After a careful vacuum, stains get attention one at a time. Around here those are usually coffee, red wine, takeout sauce, pen ink and pet mishaps.
Sturdy fabrics can take a hot water rinse; fragile ones get a lighter, low-water clean. Leather is wiped clean and nourished with conditioner.
Fabric headboards come up often in apartments. We clean them right against the wall, with a cover over the bed and the paint protected.
Mid-century and vintage pieces are popular in the neighborhood's apartments. Wooden arms and legs stay dry, and products are kept off the finish.
Have a cat tree or a dog bed with a fabric cover? Many of those can be cleaned on the same visit; point them out when we arrive.
A window air conditioner blows street dust onto whatever sits next to it all summer. The chair under the AC is usually the dirtiest seat in the apartment, and it gets extra time.
Give the furniture an afternoon to dry, with a fan if the apartment is closed up.
