Oriental Rug Cleaning in Dyker Heights, Brooklyn

Dyker Heights has many homes where a good rug has been on the floor for twenty or thirty years. Some were bought when the house was new, others came from parents or grandparents. These hand-knotted Persian, Turkish and Indian rugs can last for generations, but only if they are cleaned the right way.

After pickup, each rug is inspected and dye-tested, then washed in our plant with gentle hands-on work instead of machines. It takes longer than a standard rug wash, and drying happens flat on a rack so the rug keeps its shape.

Older rugs may have dyes that bleed when they get wet, or wool that has become dry and brittle. Testing a small spot of every main shade shows how much water and what cleaner are safe.

Dust removal comes before any washing. Years of sand and grit sink to the base of the rug, and getting them out protects the knots from wear.

Fringe is washed by hand, and we do our best to brighten it without pulling it loose.

We also look for moth damage, which often hides under furniture or in corners that do not get vacuumed. If we see it, we show you.

When we bring the rug back, we lay it in place and share tips on rotating it and protecting it under furniture.

Some families keep a good rug rolled up in the basement or attic for years. Before bringing it back into a room, it is worth having it washed, since stored rugs can hold dust and sometimes hide moth damage.
