Area Rug Cleaning in Brighton Beach, Brooklyn

An area rug near the beach collects more than dust. Sand falls deep between the fibers, salt from wet feet dries into the backing, and the rug slowly turns stiff and dull. Shaking it out on the balcony only helps a little.

Green Choice offers free pickup and delivery for area rugs across Brighton Beach. We carry the rug out of your apartment, get it washed the right way and return it fresh, with no damp left inside.

Smaller or machine-made rugs can sometimes be cleaned in your home on the same visit as the carpet. We tell you honestly which option suits each rug.

When we pick a rug up, we roll it, wrap it and take it down by the elevator or the stairs, so it does not scrape walls or drag on the floor. Let us know if your building wants us to use the service elevator.

At cleaning, the rug is first dusted out from the back. This is where most of the sand comes loose, and with beach rugs the amount can be surprising.

Then we check the fiber and test the colors in a small hidden spot. A wool rug, a cotton dhurrie, a shiny viscose piece and a polyester runner each take water in their own way, and stopping a dye from running beats trying to repair it.

The wash itself uses eco-safe products and plenty of rinse water, which also removes dried salt from the backing. Pet stains and odors are treated separately, and the fringe is cleaned and combed.

Drying is done fully before the rug comes home. A rug returned damp in a humid seaside apartment can start to smell, so we do not cut that step short.

Washing a big rug in the bathtub of a small apartment rarely works. The rug gets too heavy, the soap never fully rinses out, and the backing can stay wet for days. Sending it out is easier on you and on the rug.

Many families here roll up the living room rug for the summer and put it back down in fall. That is a good moment to send it for cleaning, so it goes back on the floor fresh instead of carrying last year's sand.

If the rug is handmade or very old, our oriental rug cleaning service is the better fit. And while we are in the building, we can also clean the wall-to-wall carpet in the other rooms.
