Carpets and couches indoors, siding, decks and the car in the driveway outside.
Throgs Neck feels more like a shore town than a city neighborhood. The peninsula pushes out between the East River and Long Island Sound, with the Throgs Neck Bridge at its tip and water on three sides. Most homes are detached houses with yards and driveways: capes, colonials, brick ranches and, in the bungalow communities by the water, small cottages on narrow lanes.
Living this close to the Sound changes what a home needs. Salt air films the windows and siding, sand from the little beaches travels indoors, and summer humidity hangs in basements and bedrooms. Houses are bigger here too, so a cleaning visit tends to cover more rooms and more surfaces than in an apartment.
Tap any service below for what it looks like on the peninsula. Green Choice opened in 2005, our products are eco-safe and non-toxic, harmless to children and pets after drying, and a same-day or next-day slot is usually open.

Square footage is the big one. A detached house with three bedrooms, a living room, a den and a finished basement can have more carpet and furniture than three city apartments put together. We quote the whole house at once and plan the order of rooms so you are never stuck without a place to sit.
Moisture is the second. Homes near the water and on the lower streets can stay humid well into the fall. That affects how long things take to dry, so we watch the moisture we put down and suggest fans or a dehumidifier where it helps.
The third is the outside of the house. Vinyl siding facing the Sound turns green on the shady side, wooden decks go grey, and driveways collect oil and leaves. Indoor and outdoor work can be combined in one booking.
There is no subway on the peninsula, so most people here drive, and express buses run to Manhattan. Our vans arrive by the Cross Bronx, the Bruckner or the Throgs Neck Expressway, so reaching the peninsula is straightforward.
East Tremont Avenue is the main shopping street, and the side streets running off it toward the water are mostly quiet, with driveways where we can park. In the private bungalow communities, we follow the gate and parking rules and simply ask you what they are when you book.
