We carry rugs out of Kingsbridge apartments and houses, give them a full wash at our plant and return them at no extra cost.
The pre-war apartments of Kingsbridge are full of oak floors, many with a herringbone or border pattern, and most people cover the living room with a large rug. A runner in the hall and a soft rug next to the bed are common too.
A rug that sits on wood collects grit at its base. Every step grinds the grit against the fibers, and vacuuming only reaches the top. Washing the rug at our plant lets us flush it out from the backing up.
We pick up and return at no charge. Our crew rolls the rug in your apartment, takes it down in the elevator or the stairs, and brings it back the same way.
When you book, tell us how many rugs you have and roughly how big. If a rug is under a bed or a heavy cabinet, say so, and we will bring enough people to lift it. Each rug gets a tag with your name before it leaves.
At the plant, we look at the fiber and test the colors. Then we shake and vacuum out the loose dirt, wash the rug in a solution that suits the material, rinse it thoroughly and hang or lay it to dry in a heated room.
Radiator heat dries out wool, and rugs that sit close to a radiator for years can feel stiff and brittle along one edge. A proper wash and slow drying help the fibers relax. If the edge is already damaged, we will let you know.
Families with dogs walked in Van Cortlandt Park bring in mud and grass seeds that work deep into a rug. Pet accidents soak into the backing. We wash pet areas with an enzyme rinse and check them again before drying.
Cheaper synthetic rugs from big stores can be cleaned too. They do not need the same care as wool, but they do collect the same dust and look much better after a wash.
Most rugs come back in about a week. We bring them up, unroll them in place and put the furniture back on top.
If a rug slides around on the hardwood, we can add a non-slip pad cut to size when we return it. It protects the floor and keeps the rug from bunching up in a busy hall.
For hand-knotted Persian, Turkish or Caucasian rugs, our separate hand-wash is the better choice; see oriental rug cleaning in Kingsbridge.
